Garden of the Gods & The Rocky Mountains

Sunday January 10, 2016 10:24pm
Grand Junction, CO

Before I start, just whoa. It has been 10 days since I left Massachusetts. A lot has happened. I have driven almost 3000 miles, been through Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado - 11 states. Me and Herold just trucking along. That is just crazy cool.

Ok, moving on. I said goodbye to some family today and hit the road. I went to Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs and then drove through the Rocky Mountains. A few things... I remember when my dad brought us kids to Garden of the Gods. It was definitely not winter time. I remember having sandals on and my feet being stained from the red sand. We climbed on rocks and explored all over. So it was nostalgic being back there as an adult. It was about 30 degrees with some snow and mud, so we didn't do too much climbing. I asked my spirit guide to show me a blue bird today and as I was walking to the parking lot, a blue bird flew right in front of me and landed in a tree (photo below). It was divine and was probably the highlight of my day. I have never seen a blue bird in the wild before.

I drove through Manitou Springs, but didn't stop. I gassed up, got some food and headed into the Rockies. I jammed out to music - mostly Led Zeppelin. I think driving thought the Rocky Mountains has been one of the coolest things I have done so far. All I can really say is wow - I felt humbled as I drove through. I saw one deer and a few birds (not sure what kind of birds) - I was hoping to see more wildlife.

I made it to Grand Junction at 8pm. I am planning on leaving here around 6am tomorrow morning and driving to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park - both in the southwestern corner of Utah.

How am I doing? I am good. Emotional. Reflective. Curious. Generally speaking, I guess. Learning about myself, reflecting, trying not to question/regret, trying to stay present and be grateful for my life up to this point and for the "hatching from my shell" that is happening right now. I will leave it at that, otherwise I will just get too deep...

Here are some pictures from today....

This is the blue bird in the tree above!

Herold just snoozin' away - he's so cute

I was thinking about sharing this coke with an actual polar bear - and I concluded that my life would probably end due to the fact that the polar bear would probably be more interested in eating me than drinking a coke. They need to be a little more realistic with this because someone out there may actually go try to share their coke with a polar bear. Not me, but someone. Just saying.

I was listening to Fool in the Rain and having a serious jam session when I was driving into this mountain above.

These pictures below are obviously out of order, but I am too lazy to move them around.
